PRESENTATION

Criminology looks back on a long history that is characterised by changes not only in terms of the object of investigation, but also in terms of methodology and theoretical perspectives. It is precisely this that makes Criminology one of the most interdisciplinary sciences, courageously able to accept the challenges posed by the scientific, social, cultural, legal and political changes that influence the nature and understanding of criminological and human phenomena.

The XXXVII National Congress of the Italian Society of Criminology, to be held at the University of Turin at the prestigious Luigi Einaudi Campus, aims to give space to the important epistemological shift of Criminology in its transition from «science at the service of social control and public order» to «science at the service of the protection of human rights».

The scientific work that characterises national and international Criminology will be the focus of the various symposia, panels, communications and posters of the congress, where leading figures from the academic and professional world will dialogue and discuss topics related to interpersonal violence, offenders and victims, risk assessment methodology, the prison system, places of treatment, prevention and social reintegration.

The commitment to a just society, in which justice, respect, freedom and responsibility coexist and reinforce each other, is not a vision of the future, but a world view that can be achieved through the scientific, legal and professional commitment of each of us in our daily lives.
